Swing the Wii Remote with Super Mario Sluggers

mariosluggers.jpg

There's something strangely appealing about Mario-themed sports games. On the one hand, they're fun and arcade-y enough for casual gamers to enjoy. On the other hand, they can offer some incredible depth for more serious gamers if they can get past the cartoon-y graphics. We've had iterations of tennis, soccer, go-karting, and more. Now it's time to let that Wii hang out.

Super Mario Sluggers -- possibly also known as Mario Super Sluggers or Super Mario Stadium: Family Baseball -- will not represent the first time that Nintendo characters hit the diamond and swung a bat, but it's the first time they're doing it on the Wii. The game was developed by Namco Bandai and was on display at this year's Nintendo Media Summit.

To throw the ball from the outfield, you do a throwing motion with the Wii Remote. You can probably guess how the pitching and batting mechanics work. The cast of characters is right where you'd expect it too, getting guys like Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, Boo, Donkey Kong, and... oh yeah... Mario.
