Spore Gets Good Reviews, Set Back By DRM

spore.jpg

Looks like Spore is hitting two bumps on the way to gaming history. First, the reviews are disappointing. A game like this should be scoring top honors across the board, yet it's getting "very good" instead of "excellent". Second, gamers are getting hit with nasty DRM issues and they're fighting back.

I'll admit that I wasn't excited about Spore from the beginning. It just wasn't my type, but so are sports games, so considering that it's a Will Wright title, I was still expecting it to do well. While those expectations were met, I can't help but feel that there's a considerable amount of disappointment to be found as well. Metacritic gives it only 87/100 out of 25 reviews, so what gives? Take the time to read the nutshell comments that are in the link to find out what's wrong with the game.

Next, the DRM issues are literally crippling legitimate buyers from enjoying the title. In fact, it's so bad that they're angry enough to flood Spore's Amazon page with one-star reviews, dropping the game's rating to a mediocre one star as of this writing. How will EA react? Stay tuned.
