SSBB: Half a Million Copies Sold in First Day

ssbb-sells500k.jpg

We all knew that Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii was going to be popular, but initial figures are absolutely astounding. According to early estimates, one shy of half a million copies were sold on opening day, making for one of the most successful Nintendo game launches in recent history. By comparison, Super Mario Galaxy took a week to sell about half that amount. Yes, people love that brawl.

The 499,999 discs that were sold in Japan -- Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku and Akihabara were particularly busy on launch day -- represent 80% of the total store stock in the island nation, and everyone is fully expecting that the game will be completely sold out before the weekend is out. Should we be expecting a similar level of fervor when SSBB arrives in North America? I think so.

Try not to get trampled.
