PS3 Most Expensive Console? Not Really

ps3pricevs.jpg

And let the flame wars continue!

On paper, the Sony PlayStation 3 is the most expensive of the three current generation home gaming consoles, but when you start to break things down, it actually provides one of the best value propositions. At least, that's what Sony is trying to emphasize through a recent media alert.

As you can see through the comparison chart above, the PS3 is meant to be a "complete" system right out of the box. The Xbox 360 lacks Wi-Fi, for example, and you have to pay for online gaming through Xbox Live. By contrast, the PS3 has integrated Wi-Fi and online gaming is free. Shifting to the Wii, you'll find a lack of DVD playback support and a lack of ample storage.

This is very true, but when Suzie Soccer Mom walks into the electronics department at Wal-Mart and sees the 360 for $200, the Wii for $250, and the PS3 for $400, what do you think is going through her head?
