Mature Games For The Wii?

Capcom's Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Research Christian Svensson recently commented on the Capcom message boards about developing M-rated games for the Wii. A few quotes from the discussion:

Regarding developing more adult-themed games for the Wii, he states that "One way you could get more M rated titles on Wii, and I'm sure this goes for ALL publishers who are watching the sales trends, is to make sure you support the M rated titles that do come out. Demonstrating that there is a market for this content will certainly go a long way toward having people creating content to fill the demand."

I just want to reiterate that with as broad a market as the Wii will have, having titles that could be played and enjoyed by anyone, is certainly the holy grail.

The bottom line of the discussion is that if we want more of these games, we have to support the adult-themed games that will be released in the near future. Now, I already mentioned this before. Nintendo's reputation for being the kiddie console maker isn't going to go away overnight. Sven's comments only reinforces that point further, that developing titles playable by everyone is the so-called holy grail. It means more for those of the casual gaming crowd, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It also means that if you're looking for more serious titles or if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, the Wii isn't your best choice. But you probably already knew that anyway.

As a side note, GameSpy just released their God of War 2 review, so be sure to check it out if you're a Kratos fan. They gave it 5 stars.
