Mario Kart Wii Commercials Are Disturbing

Mario Kart Wii is just around the corner, getting an official launch date of this Sunday. It will inevitably be a top seller for Nintendo, just as previous iterations of the racing franchise has been. Based on the sales performance of Super Smash Bros. Brawl thus far on the Wii, I'd imagine this would be a good indication of positive sales numbers to come for the cartoony driving game too.

To ramp up the release of Mario Kart Wii, Nintendo has put together a series of TV spots to advertise the game. One of these commercials has been embedded above and I'm not entirely sure what demographic they are trying to target with an ad like that. Most Canadians (possibly with the exception of Calgarians) wouldn't identify with the cowboy and even cowboys could be a little pissed off at the portrayal of the yokel.

And it doesn't help that the ad is mildly disturbing too. Couldn't they just get those two Japanese guys to tell us, "Wii would like to play." At least that wasn't disturbing.
