Man Behind Gerstmann Ouster Leaving CNET

Those of you who remember Jeff Gerstmann and the subsequent exodus of senior Gamespot staff know that it was rumored to be because of CNET's questionable new policies regarding reviews. The 'suit' behind the move is a man named Josh Larson. There were news last week that he was leaving the company. Here are excerpts from the report:

Internal communication informing employees of the cut were forwarded to Kotaku last night, indicating that a "new management structure means that Josh Larson's position as VP, Games is being eliminated and Josh will be leaving the company."

It was clear that, at the time, Larson's capabilities as editorial lead weren't well regarded by some of the GameSpot staff. The anonymous "gamespot" commented at sister site Valleywag that Larson was "a suit [...] who had no editorial experience and was only involved on the business side of things."

Will the move restore the faith of gamers in Gamespot's reviews? I admit that I still visit the site for news and previews, but no longer read the reviews. I consider that ironic because it used to be the only section that I checked prior to the incident with Gerstmann. We'll see if the editorial team will be able to bring back the site's former glory.
