Life Sized Mario is Kind of Short

mariostatue.jpg

This one is for real Nintendo fanboys only. Like, for people so loyal to Shigeru Miyamoto that they'd be willing to forfeit their first-born. Some lucky buck named Anthony was fortunate enough to get in good with a Toys R Us manager, reorganizing the Rzone at the store. As a reward, Anthony receiving a near life-size replica of our friend Mario... assuming that Mario was/is a real person. It seems to measure about four or five feet tall, so he is a touch on the short side, but this is as close to a real Mario as you're going to get, short of convincing some poor sap to dress up in a Mario outfit and stand in the corner of your room.

No, these statues are not (officially) for sale -- the steel contraptions were made available to select retailers for use in in-store displays -- but that's not to say that you can't get your hands on one if you really, really want one. A recent eBay auction can attest to that. I'm not so sure about the pose, though, as this Mario seems to be somewhere between Bob's Big Boy and John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
