Just One Set of Toy Instruments Will Do

instruments.jpg

Xbox 360 owners had a slight advantage over PlayStation 3 owners when Rock Band hit the scene late last year. At that time, several PS3 owners got quite peeved that they were not able to use their existing Guitar Hero guitars to play Rock Band. It just didn't work. By contrast, Xbox 360 owners were able to use their old GH axes with no real trouble at all. Yeah, you didn't have that effects switch, but you were still able to play the game.

As a new generation of rhythm games is just around the corner, music enthusiasts around the globe once again got concerned that they would need to invest in yet another set of guitars, drums, and microphones. What are you going to do with three sets kicking around the house (Konami has Rock Revolution coming too)?

Thankfully, it turns out that both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of these new rhythm games will have 100% inter-compatibility. Use your Rock Band guitar with Rock Revolution, your Guitar Hero drums with Rock Band... you name it. This has been confirmed by reps from Sony and Microsoft. There's no word on Nintendo's take with the Wii, but I'd imagine that they'd fall into line too.

I have a question, though. If the Rock Band drums have four pads, the GH: World Tour drums have five pads, and the Rock Revolution drums have six pads, how can they be compatible? If you're using Rock Band drums, how do you hit the other two pads in Konami's game?
