Joker Keeps Headshot Fatality in Europe

When we first heard about the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe project, we wondered how Midway would handle fatalities. After all, I'm thinking that the comic book guys wouldn't be particularly pleased with having their favorite superheroes dismembered and beheaded on a regular basis. After all, Superman is supposed to be virtually invincible... how can you allow Kitana to lop off his head with her super-sharp fans?

Some time back, we got our first glimpse into what the MK vs. DCU fatalities would look like and while they weren't quite as gory, at least they were violent. Then it changed. The original Joker fatality, depicted in the YouTube video above, had the jokester whip out a fake "bang" gun, only to take out a real gun shortly afterward for a brutal headshot. Unfortunately, the ESRB felt this was inappropriate for a T (Teen) rated game, so MIdway had to change it.

Fortunately for the people of Europe, the original headshot fatality is remaining intact for their version of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. This is because the ratings system is a little different there. The Teen rating in North America signifies that the game is fine for kids 13+, but Europe has ratings for 15+ and 16+. For the latter, headshots are fair game.

Personally, I think MK isn't MK unless it's rated M for massive gore.
