History of Nintendo on Display

It's hard to believe, but did you know that Nintendo has been around for over 100 years? You might be wondering how that could be possible, considering that even an ancient game like Pong was only launched in arcades in 1972. Well, that's because Nintendo hasn't always been in the business of entertaining you with a pudgy plumber, an intergalactic bounty hunter, or a title that gets you to scream "brew" into the screen.

Luckily for us, a Nintendo product museum recently opened in a Japanese department store that shows off a wide range of items that the Ninty crew has released over its nearly 120 year history. Nintendo opened its doors in 1889, manufacturing playing cards, and since then, they've offered a taxi service, opened a "love hotel" chain, ran a TV network, and even made a remote controlled vacuum cleaner.

It was until 1975 that they took the plunge and entered the realm of electronics, releasing video game hardware shortly afterwards. It was around that time that Shigeru Miyamoto joined the company, and the rest is history. One question remains though: does this museum have a Virtual Boy?
