Halo on the Nintendo DS? WTF?

halodsboxart.jpg

This is either a really sick joke, or a really depressing look into what could have been. According to Matt Casamassina of IGN.com, we were that close to getting Halo DS. No joke. In fact, Matt even claims to have played an early version of the game.

He says that it played very much like Metroid Prime Hunters, except with a distinct Bungie-afied Halo spin on things. You go around and blast the baddies as Master Chief, all while happily tapping on that wonderful "touching is good" machine. As you can probably guess, what ultimately got in the way was a battle of egos. After all, how could Microsoft -- maker of the Xbox and Xbox 360 -- ever get along with Nintendo -- maker of the GameCube and Wii?

Sounds far fetched? Well, there's there's no way of knowing for certain whether this was indeed a reality. But hey, if Sonic can play friendly with Mario, why can't Master Chief?
