System requirements for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV have been recently revealed. Note that we're going with the recommended ones here:
Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
RAM: 2GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space
Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader
Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
You see that? 18 gigabytes of hard drive space. If you add the mods that will eventually come out plus the custom playlist for your own radio station, storage is already an issue for older machines. Better make room for it ahead of time. If you want to experience some GTA goodness, prepare to backup your files as early as now. Note that these are recommended requirements and not the minimum, but I suggest you don't go with the latter, unless you like sluggish gameplay.

A, you might wanna add some more RAM, at least make it 2 GB. Processor is great, and the video card is decent.

Erm, i think i should be able to play GTA 4 - (dell xps m1530) core 2 duo 2.2ghz, 4gb ram, Nvidia 8600GT (and 1600x1050 res screen :D). The only things i am worried about is the fact that it says 512mb graphics card and mine is 256mb, and the hd space - only got about 5GB left (of 250 lol). should probably delete loads of stuff, am sure will be worth it. does it really matter that i dont have enough graphics memory?? or will it still run?

Anyone with a graphics card below an 7800GT might well struggle. In addition to that 2GB of Ram is definitely recommended, I would say 3Gb to be safe and of course the storage space on your computer to install it along with any mods you may hope to add, at least 18Gb to be exact. Recommended graphics card for those on a budget is a 9800 GT 512Mb, a nice card and not too expensive, will play GTA 4 without any problems. It's all in the graphics card people, you may well have a top end machine but if you skimp on the Graphics card then you will struggle, memory is second to that.

First of all, to run t you need a 512MB or more Graphic Card.
If you ave 256MB then it will go slow.
And I have noticed many boasters around here: some say they have this:
- 8Gb-RAM.
- 1Gb-Graphic Card X100 Pro.
- 2 Terrabtes of HDD space.
And they want to brag a lot; and then someone asks if the Alienware Gaming PC can run it, I mean what an idiot. It's a gaming pc so duh!
1Gb-RAM is the lowest you can have.
So don't keep on asking.
If you have 512MB video card then you can run it decently.
If less, then either not or just with a lot of lag.

The video and RAM are important though.
you must meet both minimums and on't forget! XP 32 and Vista 32 can only handle 4 GB RAM including video ram so don't waste money on filling up your slots with 6 gigs if u run a 32 bit OS

NO! 8800GTS is even better then 9600GT, 8800GTS is almoast in same level with 9800GT. P.S 9400GT is low-end video card, but I think it will handle GTA on minimum-medium, depending on your procesor - more cores = better performance, also take note that duo-core C2D E8500 with 6MB L2 catche is better then quad-core Q6600 with 4MB L2 catche.

hi there the reccommended system rquirements for gta 4 i dont think are really correct not even the real ones from rockstar that are printed on the back of the game box

and guess what
on high settings and even on medium i still get lag
sometimes its wee what i call micro seconds of it
and other times its abit longer and annoying
with my old pc i had 4 gb of ram and no lag at all
so this game is a massive ram hog
you can blaim gta 4s shitness on bad coding
as it was a port from xbox 360
every other game goes fine for me
but all rockstars games are plauged with problems

You people are full of crap. GTA 4 will run on a 128 MB 7300GT card along with a Pentium 4 @2.60GHz with hyperthreading enabled. PC games are pretty flexible even when you have a machine that has considerably worse specs than the recommended or even the minimum. If the game has a frugal engine, it can run on older machines very fine with great framerates. Take half life 2, it has one of the best game engines ever, simply because it is known to run well on older machines. Also, in terms of graphics cards, it is not all about VRAM, it can also depend on GPU clock speed, and VRAM clock speed. Too many people consider only the numbers, it's why so many people thought 3.66GHz pentium 4's were awesome. When a core 2 duo even at a moderate clock speed such as 1.2GHz can eat a pentium 4@ 3.66GHz with hyperthreading enabled. Also a graphics card can use a technology called hypermemory, it uses complex algorithms and calculations that enable a partial chunk of regular system RAM to be recognized by the GPU to be dedicated VRAM that is on the GPU board. Having enough VRAM for a game is simply having enough memory to constantly supply the GPU core with data that it can process. When the GPU cannot remember enough graphical data for a game to supply enough data to the core, resulting in choppy gameplay.
