Gamespot Loses Another Seasoned Reviewer

CNet's (mis)management over Gamespot has claimed another victim. Frank Provo, an 8-year contributor/reviewer for the popular gaming website, posted his farewell letter recently and he's not shy about spilling the details.

I believe CNet management let Jeff go for all the wrong reasons. I believe CNet intends to soften the site's tone and push for higher scores to make advertisers happy.

I won't lie to people and tell them a game is good when it isn't. I won't downplay negatives that readers have a right to know about.

You can read the entire post here. For a history of Frank's contributions to Gamespot, you can take a look at this impressive list. Looks like he's the site's resident Castlevania guru, among other things.

I haven't been referring to Gamespot's reviews since the Kane & Lynch incident. I still read them, but I don't want to refer to them anymore because I doubt their sincerity. Am I really reading what the reviewer thought about the game or is this some management-edited material?

Best wishes to Frank. We don't know each other, but your Castlevania reviews were really great.
