Complete DS Games Downloaded From Wii

dswiicomplete.jpg

And Nintendo has found another way to print money.

The Wii Virtual Console is already a huge source of nostalgia for gamers, but it seems that the wireless download of full games could soon be extended to the Nintendo DS as well. Reggie Fils-Aime recently told the New York Times that "complete" DS games would be available for download onto the Wii and then they could then be wirelessly transfered over to the touchscreen-packing portable gamer.

The idea of getting games without wires to the Nintendo DS is not new, because most of us have downloaded demos and half-games for single-cart multiplayer, but this is the first time that Ninty has made any official mention of full games. Details are seriously lacking and the greatest speed bump is that the DS is not capable of storing transferred games long-term; shut it off and the demo is gone.

So, how can the DS permanently retain this downloaded content? Is a memory pack expansion on the way, or should we be expecting a DS redesign with integrated memory for this purpose? Whatever the case, Reggie is promising that the DS will be more "tightly integrated" with the Wii in the future. Is it the GBA-GameCube link all over again?
