Cliffy B On Gears Of War & PC Gaming

GearsPCLogo.jpg

I first heard of Cliffy B seven years ago, during the height of my addiction to Unreal Tournament. His name would appear on the maps my friends and I played on and I thought that he was simply a map designer. This was before my RSS feeds and daily Wikipedia visits, so what did I know? Anyway, the man behind Gears of War spoke with MTV recently and had the following things to say about the state of PC gaming:

"I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and "Gears" is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what's driving the PC right now is 'Sims'-type games and 'WoW' and a lot of stuff that's in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That's the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we're doing. It's important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at."

He starts off with the numbers, then tells of his problems with games that require simple mouse clicks. Is it because they're not action-oriented? Considering his work, that could be true. Regardless of what he means, it's another comment about PC gaming that's sure to raise a few eyebrows. Are PC gamers really getting the shorter end of the stick these days?
