Blizzard Announces New Battle.net

battlenet.PNG

Battle.net has long been the stomping ground, combat zone and epic playing field of Blizzard, its games and its players. It has hosted StarCraft matches that put Korea on the gaming map. It has seen ears torn off as rewards for players in Diablo 2. It still bears the scars on the land where battle was raged in WarCraft. Blizzard has announced that Battle.net has been updated. Apparently the mobile authenticator was just icing on the cake. The cake itself involves integrating all Blizzard accounts into Battle.net.

Q: What is a Battle.net Account? A: As part of our ongoing improvements to Battle.net, we are introducing a centralized account system that will let players manage all of their Blizzard Entertainment games, including World of Warcraft and future games, in one place without having to remember multiple sets of login information.

It looks like it's similar to a Google account. Once you have one, you have access to Gmail, Docs, Reader, Analytics and all the other services that the search engine giant offers. With a Battle.net account, your access to Blizzard's forums, its online store and World of WarCraft fall under a single login.

The FAQ also mentions more features and tools which will help friends stay in touch with each other between games and bring the community closer together. Future games such as StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 are also going to require a Battle.net account.
