Beware of Dreamcast.com Phishing Scam

dreamcast.jpg

Someone has hacked Dreamcast.com, sort of.

It turns out that Sega no longer owns the domain and the current owner has decided to convert Dreamcast.com into one big (illegal) phishing scam. If you go to dreamcast.com now, you'll be presented with the question: Do you still own a Dreamcast?

Clicking on the question on this seemingly legitimate site -- it's using all the official logos and the domain looks legit enough -- leads to you a form where you can apply for a [serialnumber]@user.dreamcast.com email account. The user agreement requires applicants to supply their console serial number, email address, and password. Unfortunately, no one actually gets an email address... well, other than the guys running the phishing scam.

A Sega representative was asked about this situation and the company says that they will consider "appropriate measures." They assure us that Dreamcast.com has nothing to do with Sega at this point and they heavily warn users against submitting any personal information to that site.
