Athlete-Infused Guitar Hero World Tour Ad

I think I was still in diapers when Risky Business first hit theatres. I think that a lot of people interested in this game weren't even born yet when Tom Cruise slid across the living room on his socks. As a result, the reference may fly over the head of some of Neversoft/Activision's target demographic. Is this commercial still effective?

Here is one of the first commercials for Guitar Hero World Tour, the first "full band" rhythm game from the Guitar Hero franchise. It doesn't really show any of the gameplay elements, unless you count the brief glimpse at the television in the background. Instead, Neversoft and Activision hired some high-power (and expensive) athletes to do their marketing for them.

In the commercial above, you'll see Olympic medalist Michael Phelps, basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, and possibly-with-Madonna baseball god Alex Rodriguez. They're rocking out on little plastic instruments. This has got to be the most unlikely of bands.
