Animal Crossing Wii = Not MMO

nintendo-mmo.jpg

We can still dream, right?

It turns out that Nintendo currently has no interest in creating a MMO of any kind, so this lays to rest any rumors about the upcoming version of Animal Crossing for the Wii having some massively multiplayer online elements to it. In all likelihood, players will still be able to exchange friend codes and visit other towns like how they did on the DS, but it's not going to be in a persistent online world. Crap.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed in an interview with Gamespot that Nintendo will not get involved in the MMO genre until they are able to create a game that is appealing to everyone aged 5 to 95. As it stands, the big N thinks that most MMOs -- World of Warcraft, Second Life, and so on -- are too complex for the younger set to understand. Good going on perpetuating Nintendo's kid-friendly stereotype!
